Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is designed to assist you in understanding how I collect and use personal information you provide on my Web site and to assist you in making informed decisions when using my Web site and my products and services.  I value your trust, and I prioritize the security and confidentiality of information you provide to me. Please read this policy to learn about my privacy practices but you should know that I do not sell or rent my site users’ personal information to third parties. By visiting my Web site, you accept the practices as described below and agree that any dispute over these practices is governed by this policy.

What Information Do I Collect?

When you visit my Web site you may provide two types of information: personal information you knowingly choose to disclose that is collected on an individual basis and Web site use information collected on an aggregate basis as you and others browse my Web site.

1.     Personal Information You Choose to Provide

You may provide me with information about yourself, your firm or organization or initiative, or your perspectives when you register with the Web site for email newsletters or blog updates, post comments, or otherwise contact me.  This data collection can include such personally identifiable information as your name, firm or organization or initiative name, and email address.  You may also provide additional information about how you see my Web site or services meeting your needs, interests and goals.

If you choose to correspond with me through email, I may retain the content of your email messages together with your email address and my responses.

2.     Web Site Use Information

Similar to other commercial Web sites, my Web site utilizes a standard technology called "cookies" (see explanation below, "What Are Cookies?") and Web server logs (“Log Files”) to collect information about how my Web site is used. Information gathered through cookies and Web server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, time spent at my Web site, and the Web sites visited just before and just after my Web site.  Personally identifiable information is not stored in these cookies.  I use a third-party Web site hosting and tracking service, Squarespace, that uses cookies and log files to track non-personally identifiable information about visitors to my site in the aggregate, usage and volume statistic to help me better understand the needs of visitors.

Why I Collect Information

My intention is always to gather only the information needed to serve my site users better and never to gather information without their knowledge.  I aim to provide site users with a level of privacy they would reasonably expect in the normal "offline" world. 

How Do I Use the Information That You Provide to me?

Broadly speaking, I use personal information for purposes of administering and expanding my activities as a scholar, practitioner, and artist, also for making available workshops, training, performances, project consultation, and event information to my clients and prospective clients.  I also use information to closely monitor the areas of the Web site are used most and to determine which areas I need to focus on improving.  Occasionally, I use the information I collect to notify you about important changes to my Web site and services or information I think you will find valuable.  You may notify me at any time if you do not wish to receive these offers by contacting me.

Sensitive Information

I do not request any sensitive information from my site users.  If site users choose to provide any sensitive information in comments or other submissions, they do so at their own discretion and risk. 

Communications from my Site/Choice-Opt Out

If you register on my Web site, you can expect to receive a welcome email and/or confirmation email.  You will occasionally receive other communications (e.g. e-mail newsletters, blog updates, event information, alerts).  From time to time, I may need to send critical service information around your workshop or event from my Web site. You may not opt-out of receiving these updates.  You may change your preferences for receiving communications from my site by contacting me.

Blog

If you use my blog you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there, name/Web site, can be read, collected, or used by other users in this forum. I am not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit or post in my blog nor am I responsible for comments, advice, information, or any other posting made by you or other users of my blog.  I reserve the right to review materials posted in my blog and may remove any post or prevent access to my blog at my sole discretion.

What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a very small text document, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a Web site, that site’s computer asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive specifically designated for cookies.  Each Web site can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a Web site to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.

How Do I Use Information that I Collect from Cookies?

As you view my Web site, the site uses its cookies to differentiate you from other visitors.  Cookies, in conjunction with my Web server's log files, allow me to calculate the aggregate number of people visiting my Web site and which parts of the site are most popular. This helps me gather feedback in order to constantly improve my Web site and better serve clients and prospective clients. Cookies do not allow me to gather any personal information about you and I do not store any personal information that you provided to me in your cookies.

De-Identified Anonymous Information

I may use the information you provide to me for internal purposes including research and writing but only without reference to your name or professional affiliations. 

Sharing Information with Third Parties

I will not share your personal information (including, without limitation, your email address) with any third party. 

Service Providers

I use third parties to provide certain functionality on my Web site, such as email services and video displays.  I may share email information as necessary to the third party in order to provide that service.  These third parties are prohibited from using your personally identifiable information for any other purpose, including their own marketing purposes.

Third Party Advertising

I do not serve any advertisements and do not contract with third parties to serve any advertisements.

Notice of New Services and Changes

Occasionally, I may also use the information I collect to notify you about important changes to my Web site, new services or special events I think you will find valuable. You have the opportunity to notify me of your desire not to receive these offers at a later date by contacting me.

How Do I Secure Information Transmissions?

The security of your personal information is important to me.  I follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to me, both during transmission and once I receive it.  No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while I strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, I cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Certain Disclosures

I may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or subpoena or if I reasonably believe that such action is necessary to conform to the law or comply with legal process served on me or my affiliates; (b) protect and defend my rights and property, my site, the users of my site, and/or my affiliates; or (c) act under circumstances to protect the safety of users of my site, me, or third parties.

What About Other Web Sites Linked to my Web Site?

I am not responsible for the practices employed by Web sites linked to or from my Web site nor the information or content contained therein. Often links to other Web sites are provided solely as pointers to information on topics that may be useful to the users of my Web site.

Please remember that when you use a link to go from my Web site to another Web site, my Privacy Policy is no longer in effect. Your browsing and interaction on any other Web site, including Web sites that have a link on my Web site, is subject to that Web site’s own rules and policies. Please read over those privacy rules and policies before proceeding.

Your Consent

By using my Web site you consent to my collection and use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. If I make material changes to my privacy policy or procedures, I will post those changes on my Web site to keep you aware of what information I collect, how I use it and under what circumstances I may disclose it. By continuing to use my website after I post any such changes, you accept the Privacy Policy as modified.
